I got about 1/4 of the way in and could not continue. The writing is clumsy, the main character seems crazy even though he's supposedly not, and then his attorney immediately forms an emotional bond with him. The situation is so unbelievable because all of the doctors and orderlies are all out to get him and he disrespects every one of them; thus, the dialogue is juvenile and too on-the-nose. The pov constantly shifted, in the middle of the page, which made everything confusing because one minute the main character, Ratner, is thinking, and then suddenly it's two people in a sedan in the very next paragraph. Jason Wallace is very intriguing follow this to the end writer. He kept me guessing all the way through. I did not want to put this book down. I will continue to read his novels and I'm sure enjoy them to the fullest. Thanks so much for sharing this With me Jason.
Shattered by Jason Wallace is a psychological thriller featuring Rick Ratner, a lawyer diagnosed with a multiple personality disorder who finds himself committed to the Sunnydale Behavioral Hospital. He meets fellow attorney Denise Hunter who takes interest in his case. She sets out to find a possible connection between Michael Morlowe, a board member of Eldona Pharmaceuticals, and Ratner’s daughter Nataly, a recent murder victim. She embarks upon a road fraught with twists and turns that she hopes is not a wild goose chase contrived by her mentally unbalanced client. Yet she encounters red flags everywhere, and is forced to wonder if she may be able to look inside herself for the answers she knew all along.
The philosophical significance of delusion is a keynote in Wallace’s work. We find Ratner making judgments between good and bad people throughout the novel, from neighbors to co-workers, orderlies to resident doctors. He attempts to project these assumptions onto Denise, who seems to reject them at first though becomes inexorably drawn into what soon appears to be a parallel universe to that of Ratner. As the conflict ensues between her spirited will and Ratner’s fractured mind, she eventually finds herself fighting to keep from being drawn into his delusions. It is a climactic confrontation with Dr. Kimberly Selis that results in both Denise and Rick coming to terms with their dire predicament at last.
This is an atmospheric and provocative novel that both suspense/thriller and psychological mystery buffs will enjoy. Shattered by Jason Wallace is one you won’t want to miss.
Totally suspenseful with an ending I never saw coming!!
All I can say is.....WOW!!!! Never expected the story to take the turn it did, superb ending. I refuse to be the type of reviewer who reveals or summarizes an authors work, as I don't believe that re-telling a story gives credit to the person who wrote it, so I will keep it brief, read it slowly, look for clues, get engrossed, you won't be disappointed!
I liked the concept . Took a long time to get to the heart of the story . Lots of typos and confusion . Multiple personality disorder is difficult to understand and treat . That is the heart of this story .
