Ghost Ops. A small unit of super-elite soldiers so secret only two men know of their existence. Betrayed by their commanding officer while on an antiterrorist mission, the team is massacred. Only three survive - and find themselves framed and disgraced. But en route to the court martial, they escape...and disappear.

Beautiful, brilliant, and determined, Dr. Catherine Young is on a mission to find a man who has vanished into thin air. Walking into a high-tech hideaway bearing an essential message to Tom "Mac" McEnroe, team leader of the betrayed Ghost Ops force, is the most dangerous thing she has ever done. The soldier she encounters is frightening and suspicious, but her senses reveal the man underneath tough, honorable, and so breathtakingly masculine Catherine feels weak in his presence.... But to surrender to Mac's passionate desires would put her life in dire jeopardy. Catherine has a gift that enables her to see into the heart of others - and looking into Mac's is like staring into the very heart of danger itself.

Heart of Danger A Ghost Ops Novel Book 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Lisa Marie Rice Seraphine Valentine HarperAudio Books

that Ms. Rice must compete with herself, but that is why I gave this novel four instead of five stars. I just expect a 'WOW' every time I read her work. Her Heroes are larger than life, they have testosterone running through their veins instead of blood, and they love their women the same way they embrace their masculinity. The Heroines are always gorgeous( as they should be in these stories,) intelligent enough to recognize their very own alpha male and to partner them on equal terms, and, of course, always have a Grave Peril from which the Hero must rescue them.
This book was no different, with two very distinct differences: the futuristic devices , missing from previous work, were believable, intriguing and appropriate. Ms. Rice did not ask us to suspend belief with this glimpse into a brave new world, even though the setting stretched ones's imagination a bit. The second difference was what I meant when I remarked that Ms. Rice was competing with herself. Never before have I noticed her using 'filler' like so many other writers do. Generally, I hang on to every word, every paragraph. The suspense and the sex are always powerful, over the top, dynamic, and dynamite. I have even re-read some of her books, but in the "Heart of Danger," Ms. Rice ,at times, seemed to be mindful of having to produce a certain word count. I found myself skipping forward, something I have never done with her previous books.
So yes, I recommend this novel, and feel the reader will get her money's worth. You will root for the Hero,, feel for the Heroine, and hate the bad guys, and the love scenes are pleasantly warming. But this is NOT as good as Ms. Rice gets, for sure.

Heart of Danger A Ghost Ops Novel Book 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Lisa Marie Rice Seraphine Valentine HarperAudio Books Reviews

3 cheers for Lisa Marie Rice! Another wonderful novel. But this one has a paranormal twist to it that is not so heavy that if you're not a paranormal fan, it will not be overbearing. Tom McEnroe "Mac" is an outlaw warrior hiding in a cave in Blue Mount that he has turned into a high-tech Utopia. Betrayed by his Captain during a mission, he and his fellow comrades Jon and Nick have built this world known as "Haven". They have taken in outcasts on the run including a former movie star, Stella, who is now the chef for Haven.

Catherine Young is a talented neurologist, who also has a "gift" that she has considered a curse all her life--she can feel others emotional and physical pain through touch. Though Mac and his partners believe their former captain is on some tropical island living a life of leisure while they are in hiding, the truth is that he is a prisoner in the lab where Catherine is a research scientist working on dementia. His brain has be altered and altered rendering him helpless--until he manages to communicate with Catherine telepathically. He sends her into the mountains in the middle of a blasting snowstorm to find Mac.

Catherine's car dies in the storm and she sits in the middle of ever-lovin' nowhere basically waiting to freeze to death, when indeed she is found by Mac. And this is where the sexual tension and the story takes off.

Ms. Rice is an author that doesn't always give her readers gorgeous alpha heroes. I love that. Mac is terribly scarred on one side of his face from a severe knife wound, and the other side has been burned to a crisp. But he is strong and brave, and Catherine not only feels his pain, but feels his honor and finally his love. He is tough and your heart pounds for him--that's when Ms. Rice reminds you that he is ugly, except you find that you just don't care--you can't help but love him.

Hey! This is a great ops series--I can't wait for the next book! Bring it on soon, Lisa!!!
THis s the first book in Lisa Marie Rice's Ghost Ops Series and the first book I've read by this author. It centers around Tom McEnroe "Mac" a former special ops guy hiding in a mine that he and two other special ops guys turned into a high-tech Utopia. THey were betrayed by their Captain during a mission, and now wanted by the government, the military and the police. They have also taken in a bunch of outcasts to live in their Utopia they call Haven.

Catherine Young is a neurologist, who also has a "gift" that she considers a curse and has tried to avoid using it. She can feel others emotions through touch. Catherine is a research scientist working on dementia and one of her patients turns out to be Mac's former Captain. His brain has be altered and he has been experimented on so he is basically helpless until he is able to communicate with Catherine telepathically. He sends her to where he is sure Mac is to get help.

Catherine's car dies in the storm and she is freezing to death until Mac finds her and takes her back to Haven. Although they are sexually attracted to each other Mac doesn't trust Catherine and thinks she may be sent there by the bad guys.

Mac is scarred on one side by a knife wound and burns on the other. He is described as ugly but strong, brave and heroic. I actually love that the hero isn't drop dead gorgeous but Catherine sees beyond that to the man that he is.

I really liked the storyline in this book and the future she created. I even liked Catherine's ability. What I didn't like was instant connection Mac felt and the almost "Supernatural" sexual pull. She was a beautiful woman and while she had a gift that drew her to him, I didn't understand why he had to feel a "supernatural" pull to her. Also, although Mac was described as tough and a warrior within days of meeting Catherine he was all of a sudden an emotional, sweet guy with her.

The book intrigued me and I'd like to read the next one, but not at a price of $10.00 for the kindle edition.
