My 5 year old was disappointed by this book. Probably would be fine for a 2-3 year old. Each page features a single sentence: "I'll trade my X for Y." Starting with a peanut butter sandwich and then ending with a peanut butter sandwich. It took us a minute to go through it. If you and your child like books that tell a good story, it's not for you.I really think writing children's books is an art. There are books from my own childhood that still live indelibly in my memory ... Blueberries for Sal, Andrew Henry's Meadow, The Little House. And then there are "cute" and forgettable books like this one. I think the main problem was that I saw this book listed as appropriate for kids in the 5-7 age range. It might be okay for learning to read, but this book doesn't give them enough credit. They understand - and want - subject matter that's way ahead of this.

My kids really like this book, and so do I. They can easily follow along and read the story with me.
My 10 year old son read this and it was very easy (probably too easy) but he needed to get reading time in for school. This one looked cute, so I ordered it on my kindle and he read it from cover to cover and actually liked it! (he hates reading)
If you liked "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie" you'll love this book too. It is very similar to this beloved story only with a little boy involved. My 4 year old grandson loved it. He thought it was very funny. We enjoyed reading this book. I also read it to my Learning Support kindergarten class and thought it was funny too.
My 9 year old daughter and I are big fans of Chris Robertson. His unique style is nostalgic, timeless and skillful. We were very happy to see that he created another beautiful book. The story is so charming and the lead up to the finale is very well done. My daughter laughed out loud every time she read it. She quickly formed her own ideas of what "trades" she would do. I loved seeing that it sparked her imagination as well! Reading it put a smile on my face too! I highly recommend this book and any other book by this author/illustrator. He's quickly become one of our favorites!
I'll Trade My Peanut-Butter Sandwich is a delightful story written by talented chilren's author, Chris Robertson. The initial trade of a peanut-butter sandwich is followed by increasingly outlandish and humorous trades, which exemplify the wide-eyed imagination of a child. The illustrations are a perfect compliment to the story, highlighting the innocence of childhood days. Aaaah....I can almost taste that crunchy peanut butter now. ) The story made me nostalgic for my own childhood when anything seemed possible and simple pleasures were found inside a brown paper bag my mom packed for lunch. "I'll Trade My Peanut Butter Sandwich," is a satisfying and delicious read right down to the very last bite. )
I am such a fan of Chris Robertson books. In this book, a little boy trades his peanut butter sandwich for bigger, funner things, but wants it back when he gets hungry. The illustrations in this book are visually appealing with bright colors. Chris has a unique way of bringing a scene to life, by focusing on the character or object and using lighter shades for the actual background objects. His style is what makes all of his books special. This one is a must-read. The kids will love it! Two thumbs WAY up!

The story begins with a little boy who wants to trade his peanut-butter sandwich. He makes many trades and upgrades until the story comes full circle when he realizes he is hungry. This is a perfect read alike for children who love Laura Numeroffs' If You Give a Mouse a Cookie series. Perfect for ages 5 and younger because of the engaging illustrations and the short text. I really enjoyed this book and I would not trade the experience of reading this picture book for anything not even a Peanut-Butter And jelly sandwich.
