I want to take my 9 year old son on a trip somewhere in Europe this summer, but I'm not sure where yet. He has yet to travel anywhere in the Eastern Hemisphere so when I asked where he'd like to go, he wasn't sure. I considered the fact that the Common Core curriculum used in our public school system fails to include much geography, ( so I figured we had some research ahead of us. I had been in the market for a comprehensive book on Europe that was full of great photographs, included all of the countries we would be interested in, and was written at a level that was informative yet understandable and enjoyable for my son. Everything I found was either a long and arduous college level dry history of a nation - one nation at a time - or else too babyish and cartoony with illustrations rather than photographs. I was about to give up when I came across an offer for a free kindle book on Europe in exchange for an unbiased review on . I figured I had nothing to lose so I downloaded it. Boy am I glad I did!! I don't know if this is available in hardcover, but I wish it was and I had it. The photos!!!! Absolutely stunning!! I've included two in this review. Each country has 1-3 full color photographs of famous places/monuments/etc or else some stunning view of a landscape. Along with the photos is a rectangle about a quarter of the page big filled with brief historical facts and interesting tidbits about each country written in language easy enough for kids to understand but not so juvenile that adults can enjoy it as well. This would really make a great coffee table book! I can't wait to show my son and plan our trip! Countries included are England, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Iceland, Amsterdam, Austria, France, Greece, Iceland, Russia, Spain, Sweden,Ukraine. A beautiful book - highly recommended.
Great book with European cities and amazing pictures in it. It is really interesting to read not only for adults but for kids as well.
